The Canons of Dordt sound triumphantly in the distance and fresh tulips embolden Rinker Green, as students and faculty anticipate today's debate. Sharpen your fangs folks.
In all truth, Dr. Paul Copan will be giving the above mentioned talk. Meanwhile Jim and Jamie Dutcher will be giving a talk about their six years of life lived amongst grey wolves and the cinematography that developed.

Wolves tak?
Well, TAK = Theta Alpha Kappa. Wolves = ferocious animals. Bears = will freaking eat you.
Awesome.
It is very difficult to have a "straight scoop". Try scooping something up. Your arm tends to curve. "The Straight Curve". Now that's a tak I'd attend.
I went to hear Paul Copan talk about Calvinism and Arminianism it was a good talk. I am curious as to what was said in the other talk though, how exactly do you live with wolves?
the straight curve is so good i saw that one last feptober
sadly as a pba alum, i don't really think copan knows what he's talking about on this issue
So what happened to the Bacon? Did the wolves tak off with it, or was it the Arminians?
Bacon, where for art thou?
Baconion? Doest thou existeth?
I cry when Bacon leaves me lonely
" On March 30th, 2008 at approximately 1045PM, PBA Security officers and West Palm Beach Police responded to an armed robbery of an individual call. The incident occurred at the east bound corner of Acacia and S. Olive Ave. The suspects are described as two African American males. The first suspect was an African American male 6'0 skinny with short black hair, brown eyes wearing a light colored shirt and jeans. The second male was described as dark skinned and wearing dark clothes. One suspect was carrying a firearm on him during the time of the robbery. Both suspects attacked the victim and took the victims personal property. The victim in this incident was not a PBA student.
PBA Security is committed to continuing our mission of providing a safe campus, and reminds all PBA personnel that security escorts are available for all staff. It is important during this time to remember safety tips.
* Avoid as much as possible walking alone at night, always try to walk in groups.
* If walking to your car, have your keys out and ready to open your car door.
* Make sure your valuables are secure on your person.
* Report all suspicious individuals to PBA security immediately.
If you have any information regarding this robbery you are urged to call (561) 803-**** or fill out a silent witness form online. Additionally, you can talk to PBA security in person. It is important to also note that these incidents are isolated and we still continue to have a very low crime rate on our campus. getting bored here bacon, c'mon, get something new up here already!!!
Fresh bacon is cooking up... check back tomorrow.
Alright, fresh Bacon.
I'm hungry.
Why are the safety and security notices being posted in the comments section of the bacon?
I was also wondering why the safety and security notice was posted here--was this sent out on Listserve as well?
Maybe s&s was also getting bored, so they figured, why not post something?
See what happens when we don't get fresh bacon?
"Coming next to Bacon comments... the weather in Pahokee!"
Can't wait.
it was posted because students were conveniently left out of the loop and the letter.
No clever April fools antics Bacon? I expected something great.
So where is the fresh bacon?
Jeez, you think maybe the writers were amongst those expelled?
I highly doubt if PBA had people smart enough to write satire for the Bacon that were still dumb enough to smoke pot.
Please everyone... bow your heads with me now, as we all say good bye to an old friend.
Dearest Bacon, you were loved by so many! So much could be said of how you made us all smile with your witty words. How you made us think. How you challenged the school we all love to be better.
Today, we commit this dead porked blogspace to the ground, Lord...ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Dear Lord, we commit this formerly very funny place known to mankind as "the Bacon" to your eternal kingdom. May he (she, it) now rest in peace...
Amen.
This happened Monday around 11. By the end of the day on Tuesday there were flyers all over campus warning students. You can't go in any building on campus except for maybe Gregory or VLR, without seeing one of these flyers. Monday night when it happened a security guard went around to everyone on the first floor of towers warning them to keep their doors closed and locked, and came and warned those in the lobby, because it was on the southside of campus. The mugging was on the street between health and wellness, and Memorial Pres, and it was a staff member who got mugged which is why they were telling the staff members about the escort service. Students have the same ability to get an escort if they so desire. You were told that during your orientation, maybe you should have paid attention.
t,
so the alert messaging system they raved about and the e-mail we are required to check is just very expensive tech fluff that has no practical use. To address your statement about not being able to enter any building without seeing one of those fliers. Do you know how many evening graduate students never see anything posted in the Lassiter building because they never set foot in there. Graduate classes let out LATE at night, come to think of it, about 10:45, the time this incident happened. These fliers are NOT on every door. Using the evening / graduate students as an example again, they are using MacArthur classrooms, although there may be fliers on the doors to MacArthur hall and nearby Rinker and Borbe halls, there is not a single flier on the classroom doors. E-mail would have been nice.
I haven't seen any flyers around RSB or Borbe
Thats because they put a million of them in ODP... On the doors, windows, elevators, urinals.
That makes it three for three. Three articles written about the Goodman award, three times the Bacon had to shut down the comments...good job PBA.
The Bacon shutting down a thread because of criticisms = bad.
I thought the Bacon was all about free speech. The Bacon is censoring speech now too. What in the world is up with that. Someone disagrees with the bacon writers and they get their panties in a wad. Grow up bacon writers. If you want free speech you must grant free speech.
The comments this time weren't even that bad.
I wonder what the last few comments were before they pulled it because I agree, they didn't seem that bad to me.
They basically just criticized the Bacon's move from light hearted, non-serious stuff to mostly serious stuff. Also, general comments relating to accuracy in reporting and the Bacon becoming a little too preachy and a little too propaganda-esque.
I completly side with the Bacon on this one, regarding shutting down on the Goodman award discussion. People started to get personal regarding SGA. People started naming names.
The Bacon is about issues. Keep name calling out of it. Good job Bacon. You did the right thing.
For the rest of you guys-stop whining about free speech and censorship and realize that even the Bacon has out of bounds areas. Stay with issues and don't resort to name calling. Be happy that you have a voice here. It's a good one.
Somehow, I knew I'd find a continuation of goodman comments if I came here....free speech lives, let's not blow it!
Name calling? It was the Bacon who initiated the name calling by dragging Searle, Kloba and the rest down and insulting them. After that, there has been PLENTY of articles where people have made a comment here and there that marched right over that line and the Bacon usually either deletes or ignores them.
I really don't think that has anything to do with why they shut down the comments for this one, or any of the others that attempted to be serious but may not have been 100% accurate.
Also, I really would not say that PBA is actually the "Voice" of the Bacon. Sure, there are a dozen or so kids at Smoker's Wall who may feel politically impotent and side with the Bacon, but originally the Bacon was fiercely ANTI-politics and all humor. According to most surveys, student contentment is up, the retainment rate is excellent for a private school of this size and that heavily implies that the majority of the students do not think that the administration exists only to steal money and inconvenience students.
Typo: switch Bacon and PBA in the first sentence.
I was writing a comment right as they were disabled for the Goodman post defending my view of student government's authority. While I did not mention the names of the current pres/vp, others assumed they're who I was talking about. The fact is why did freshmen run unopposed this year for these offices in SGA while no juniors or at least sophomores with more experience regarding campus know-how stepped up to make a difference?
Whoever is in charge of the bacon now has ruined it. Plain and simple. The originators would be disappointed. You call administrators out on things all the time, but when someone else tries to call someone out who you agree with you pull the comments. That's ridiculous.
I agree...the Bacon has gone down hill; I don't find it funny anymore. Maybe I should go read the Beacon instead.
If you're expecting to find any sort of amusement within the pages of The Beacon besides amusement at the crappy spelling and sub par writing, I'm afraid you'll be very disappointed. Please don't hate on the Bacon...everyone gets in writing slumps from time to time. And, honestly...isn't anything better than The Beacon?
It's not only the quality that has gone downhill, but they've only written one thing in a month. Maybe the writers were stupid enough to smoke pot and got the boot. Who knows. Whatever the reason for not writing recently, this reminds me of the start of the year with very bad quality articles and negative comments aimed at the Bacon. Whoever they picked up to change that seems to have left. Will the Bacon ever good again???
Hmmmmmm...has anyone else noticed that the decreased activity of the Bacon has happened to coincide with the increased activity of theater students doing Man of Lamancha? This along with how many times you see the Bacon references the School of Communication or the theater department makes me wonder who the writers are. Hmmmmmmm...anyone want to take a guess?
I disagree.
To hmmmmmmmmmmmm:
I know some theatre students...
and communication majors
and I highly doubt it.
Question:
What is the moral obligation of student leaders who give an award in the name of a gifted former professor who questioned the inspiration of scripture and the resurrection of Christ both basic doctrines of orthodox Christianity? If at least one faculty member has turned down the award because of rejection of the known beliefs of this person, should student leaders make this known? What influence,if any, should former students have on the selection and naming of an award by current students? Should not the beliefs of a former faculty member, however gifted, whose name is attached to an award not be open to scrutiny. If not why? Should not this person's beliefs be freely and openly discussed in the Bacon. Is the Bacon leadership being trained in freedom of the press by Putin and the leaders of Russia?
I'm not sure.
But I do know the best possible way to speak is solely in rhetorical questions.
ethel, didn't you mean to say,
"Aren;t rhetorical questions the best possible way to speak?"
I might oppose that view, but who am I to argue?
Okay,Bacon,I'm getting a little worried. Do I need to report a missing blog to the police?
love. bacon nothing but love.
Someone should really write about the chapel controvesey and how people are not getting chapels because it fills up at like 15 minutes till 11, and the lady that sang in chapel last week could make for a good article
How about the fact that people who are having trouble with their unpaid balances will now have to pay even more $ for the chapels that they can't get credit for because their card has been deactivated.
Its all a conspiracy to get more of your money... jking. But honestly if the budget was several thousand short why not deactivate a bunch of peoples cards right before the end of year chapel rush. What is it like $40 per missed chapel? There was like close to 100 people that couldn't go to chapel yesterday.
BACON WHERE ARE YOU!??!?!?
Maybe you should get your chapel credits before the last week month of school. It really isn't that hard to get all of your chapel credits. And even if you can't swipe into chapel, you can email Robin White and let her know you were there but you didn't swipe, and she'll give you credit for it... she may require you tell her what the chapel was about to verify that you were actually there. But seriously... next year get them out of the way early, that way you can go for fun like I do!

2006-2008
Rest in Peace.
maybe they're just swamped with finals too ...
chapel is filling up 25 minutes before it starts! Thats crazy. I understand people shouldn't wait til the last minute but it happens. So don't judge. They should have had more chapels and there is nothing we can do about it. I think that if enough people complain about it they'll do something. but just sitting back and doing nothing won't help.
Sodexho Review:
Month old bacon leaves one with a bitter aftertaste.
More chapels! There were 74 opportunities for chapel throughout the year. And that doesn't include repeat chapel services like the typical monday through thursday chapels with the same message. Thats one opportunity. Most weeks there was at least 4 chances to get 1, if not 3 or 4 different chapel services. Don't ask the chapel offices for more chapels that students aren't going to attend. You knew at the beginning of the year that you would get disciplined if you didn't have enough chapels. Stop complaining and act like adults, own up to the consequences for your actions.
Seriously? Ask for chapels no one is going to attend? Are you deaf, dumb, AND blind? Adding end of the year chapels is always needed and always done. PBA always adds more chapels and people fill them up. This semester, however...they're turning people away from their extra special added chapels and not designating overflow. That's not the stupidity of students...that's just bad planning on PBA's part.
74 opportunities. Enough said. If you don't have enough chapel credits by now it is your own fault. Grow up. Your mommy can't breast feed you anymore, so don't expect PBA too either.
I think that if they could supply overflow that the problem would be solved. We don't need more chapels, just more room for the ones at the end of the year. Also, at least when I go, the chapel is never THAT empty, there is extra room but it isn't like it is almost empty.
I know that a lot of peoples situations are that we would have had enough chapels if there had been overflow.
PBA gave weyenberg to the Theatre somewhere back before the One Act festival. PBA had plenty of time to go, "oops! we need overflow!"
The issue is the lack of overflow room. And PBA being silly.
The easy and appropriate response by the Chapel Office should have been to move all chapels immediately last week to the Gym once they realized how many students needed Chapels. That is not a difficult adjustment, and would have helped countless students, and stopped the problem of many students getting up in the middle of class to go stand in line, or even just plain skipping class to get a seat at chapel. The standard of an overflow had already been established in past years, and the poor foresight of PBA caused the Theater production to be exiled to Weyenberg. Finally PBA realized this and is using FBC for the final two, probably saving an imminent chapel riot. It is true students should be responsible enough to get them all, but many who only needed a few more have been turned away at the door multiple times. It was an easy problem to fix early on-- move to the gym. Or you could do something ignorant like FCA, and have it in the even smaller UB Building, max capacity 250. Yes I know they traditionally meet there. But they have also met in the gym. I got there at 10:20 and was locked out. See you guys at about 10 am for chapel tuesday and thursday, since I need both now.
The issue is also with the students. I've talked to so many who had worn their lack of chapel credits as a badge of honor a couple of weeks ago. "Yeah I've got only 12. I'm so cool." And now they're all freaking out because they didn't take advantage of the multitude of opportunities given before. Yes, PBA should prepare for this sort of inevitability but students should also do some preparing themselves. Foresight is a common characteristic of adults.
But like the 22 guy said, a lot of people only need one or two but are being turned away because the chapel is full 40 mins before it is going to start. The gym would have been an easy solution. I don't think that just having a few chapels left is any kind of lack of foresight.
Of course it is a lack of foresight but even more than that it is a sign of the overall culture of PBA. PBA students love to get by with the bare minimum. In Workship, in chapel, and in class. The mindset is how little can I do and not get in trouble. That is the problem with Christian liberal arts Universities and colleges. They are a a breeding ground for lazy, apathetic, cultural Christianity. A true follower of Christ is one who works for the Glory of Christ, not one who does enough to get by.
Its your own fault for not having chapel taken care of by the end of the first semester. There are 16 weeks in a semester. Lets assume with breaks that you only go to 14 of those weeks. You can still just go to Cristival and Womens/Mens Conference and get 10 more credits. Its actually quite pathetic the chapel requirements that are in place for a Christian school.
Anonymous,
I'm so glad your parents are wealthy enough that you don't need to work like most of us to get through school, and that your school schedule is so easy you never have group meetings or other commitments during the 11 clock hour. I'll email Bernie and have him make up a medal for you getting all 24 in the first semester. You anonymously rule.
Also, it seems the only link to check chapels (on mypba) has disappeared. Now that's just funny. Maybe everyone checking all the time was clogging the server.
wow.. some people just refuse to accept responsibility for their actions. Most of us have jobs, me included, and I moved out of my parents house when I was 17 and have been fully self supporting since then. I work 25 hours a week, and take 18 credit hours. yet i still manage to get enough chapel credits. Its called adulthood, and it requires growing up. Try it.
Congratulations, former anonymous. I am an adult, and I want to welcome you to the wonderful world of adulthood.Lots of benefits, lots of perks, and lots and lots of challenges. You sound like you're going to make it. I'm serious. You plan ahead, work toward your goals, trudge through the tough stuff, and in general, keep on keeping on, and you'll make it. Sounds like you've discovered the benefits of planning your work and working your plan. Good job!
For the rest of you, take a note from this person, buy an alarm clock and start waking up before noon, start planning out your life and setting goals for yourself because it doesn't get any better than what you've got now, as life goes on.
You want to be treated like adults? Start acting like adults.
PS- don't think this is coming from administration. I'm an alumni.
Anonymous Douchebag,
Please learn how to critically read. I'm agreeing with you that getting all 24 is easily attainable. My point is that you are a douchebag for thinking you are high and mighty for getting them all in first semester and bragging it to everyone else. You're just as bad as those who brag of how few they have (of which you might assume i'm one of)I'm getting all mine in, albeit requiring the final chapel, but I'm still getting them all.
Also, i'm glad attaining adulthood is now based on chapel credits. Wow. Let's assume everyone who has less than 24 chapels currently wakes up at noon and watches anime for another 2 hours.
For those of you trying to check chapels...
http://www1.pba.edu/internal/index.cfm?action=chapel
I don't think I've ever seen such bitter comments on The Bacon before...it's almost funny that chapel credits is what's causing all the meanness.
Hey we have it easy with only 12 per semester required. Wheaton is 30 like Gordon like Taylor like Biola all require 25 or 30. With 70 opportunities to get 12 it should be easy even for those with jobs....
You just have to take some personal responsibility for your own behavior....
I understand that there are a lot of chapels in a semester but this year they took away some at the end of the semester. They had several weeks where there were no chapels on Mondays. For those of us that have to work and only have Monday to go to chapel this is a problem. Also those on sport teams that have to travel all the time are penalized for missing chapels. They are representing our school and yet get in trouble for having to miss chapels. Pharmacy students get special chapels to make sure they get the 24, why don't we get the same option...
Super-Duper site! I am loving it!! Will come back again - taking you feeds also, Thanks.
