PBA opens new parking lot: Lake by the Chapel

With the number of students increasing at PBA and the parking situation not getting any better, some students have found a unique way to beat the traffic.

"The chapel by the lake used to be the last resort", said a frustrated and moist senior Albert Ruckus. "Now the only way to park is to create your own spot anywhere you can".

Since PBA began charging commuters to park in the garage during the day, students have found it more financially sound to pay for water damage and a crane to get their car out, than hand over the cash for a few hours in the garage.

"I just went over the edge and parked in the water," said Ruckus, "and people followed suit."

With more and more students realizing their efforts to find a spot on land is futile; the idea is becoming more and more popular. Even the landscapers are having to double park just to get their work done.

Luckily PBA has found a solution to the problem. A new phosphorescent light red sticker will be available Thursday at 4:27 a.m. for all students to purchase for $300 who wish to park in the new "Lake by the Chapel" lot.

PBA Security has already purchased scuba suits and amphibious golf carts to adequately monitor the new parking area.

Will they still boot your car or just use a really big anchor?

if you have ever gone to another university then you would know that PBA's parking situation could be much worse. so you have to walk 2 blocks from your car to class!? suck it up! big deal! drive down olive and park on one of the side streets past towers! i have walked from nearly belvedere before and sure it is a pain if you are running behind and can't find a spot right next to your building, but get here earlier! if you have ever gone to a state school ex: UCF, UF, FSU, etc. then you would know that you probably had to walk nearly a mile or more to get to your class and many times have to park waaay out of your way if you can find a spot at all! it could be better, yes, but until they can find more parking, DEAL WITH IT BABIES!

a lot of anger from the ucf student, the point is valid. i came from a state school that charged $400 to just park on campus. if you wanted to be near buildings it was close to $1200. the difference is pba is a private school so we're being gouged by tuition and now they want to add parking to that.by the way, employees can park in the garage without paying the fee meaning you may not have a spot waiting for you when you arrive. if nobody were to purchase garage passes they would have to stop charging.

Man, Ucf students are really angry

bob said...

must be because they can never find parking

non-angry ex ucf student said...

sorry i came off angry...not angry, just think that some students don't realize how good they really have it. that's all. and yes, good point about the tuition but again...nobody is making you pay the money. just find a spot and walk.

My conclusion:
In relative terms, PBA parking is not that bad.
In absolute terms, PBA parking is terrible.

"by the way, employees can park in the garage without paying the fee meaning you may not have a spot waiting for you when you arrive."

Employees are limited to the first two floors. Asking employees to park in the garage is meant to leave three floors in the garage, chapel by the lake, the okechobee lot, the lot by the intramural field AND the one next to health and wellness for commuters. The problem is not PBA or a lack of parking spots. It is our addiction to our cars. WHY do people from towers drive to class in Borbe? Why do they drive to the caf? WALK! Or, get a bike. Although the bike parking is getting ridiculous too. Its no wonder why the USA is becoming the fattest country in the world. Trust me girls, no guy will find us attractive if we are lazy have flabby thighs and a double chin.
There are several employees and teachers that ride bikes, motorcycles and scooters to work to avoid the headaches and try to make the parking better by not adding to the problem. There are a few that even ride the train. Unless you need your car to get to work off campus or some other legit reason, get rid of your car - send it home, leave it at a friend's house or garage - freeing up a parking spot for a commuter.

Missing common sense:
People in Towers aren't even allowed to park in the borbe or rinker lots. They haven't been since Fall of 2006. So I think that point isn't even valid. Also, under the new rules, Towers and Lakeview have to park on their side of campus so they no longer take up spots of commuters.

Once again, we have the old Bacon issue.

What is rumor. What is fact.

What is the new policy on parking in the deck? What's the real story?

Jim, Jimmy, Jon, Whatever said...

The Bacon is satire! Man I get tired of alumni who aren't here anymore asking about current policy and telling the Bacon to state the facts. It's not about facts, it's about humor! Bacon purposely distorts truth the make us laugh -- that's satire. If you don't like it, don't come on it.

Awesome Job Bacon! And to answer Captain Wonder's questions--not enough parking...implies a shortage...implies ??? (Not a popular solution)

To most recent anonymous:
This story stems from the parking situation at chapel by the lake. When the lot fills up (around 10 a.m. every day), people begin to park on small patches of grass, or right in the middle of the pathways, blocking anyone who comes after them.

I actually think this problem is good for a liberal arts school......it encourages students to think creatively.
