What a wonderful and refreshing picture, to see these old friends....I would estimate that 98% of regular Bacon readers started smiling when they first saw this picture and caption, and the other 2% started frowning. Thank you Bacon for putting a smile on my face!
That's Dr. Perry Hildreth, former dean of arts and science/also the BMOC of the Honor's department; Dr. Joe Webb, former dean of communications school; and Prof. Denise McGill who was the chairperson of the old news and information department and jump-started the photjournalism major. Miss all these folks...
It is a very funny photo but.. Be serious only Hildreth was a really good professor. The other two were bad and got very poor student reviews. Hey just because they were pc doesnt mean they could teach. Truth is some very poor teachers have left PBA once they saw their poor student reviews. Thank God PBA doesnt have tenure and like some schools has to keep such faculty even if they can't teach.
gaelic gopher....good descriptions....except there is no photojournalism program at PBA....there is the print track or broadcast track. But Mcgill was the closest thing to one. Great professor.
University of South Carolina is blessed... Gardner-Webb is doubly blessed. Anyone who's been at PBA long enough to remember these three great folks misses them greatly.
Regardless if McGill or Webb would 'good' teachers or not, Hildreth was not downright phenomenal.
I would argue one of the top three professors the school has seen over the last 8-10 years (Gamble+McNutt as the other two).
I'm glad he was able to move closer to his family and be at Gardner-Webb...as well as escape from the ridiculously bad position of being underneath Dr. Kloba's inept leadership.
Guys, lets not debate the character of people who are no longer here at PBA. Let's focus our efforts on people that are still here. Also, I call BS on the person claiming to know about their student evaluations.
Agreed Jeep9....I mean focus. The anonymous who claimed to know the jist of their evaluations...well, lets just say they are full of crap. I took one of professor McGills classes, and she helped me out with photography long after that... and I can say without a doubt that she was extremely well liked in our class.
And, can some of you people at least for the sake of clarity choose a name other than anonymous?
So profs are leaving PBA after they see their poor student reviews? They're all bowing out gracefully so as to not inflict themselves on the student body. Is that the latest explanation for the great brain drain from campus?
The majority of the posts on this board seem to suggest that all three profs were well-liked, even if people are forgetting their names and roles already.
One of the administration's favorite tactics is to smear the departed. It's just not classy, and it exposes them for what they are.
As someone who falls into the same category as the subjects of the picture, and who remembers Perry Hildreth and Denise McGill fondly (never really got to know Joe Webb), it's good to see them looking well. Life goes on...
Hildreth was phenomenal, as many of you have noted, and Dr. Webb was also incredible. (I didn't know the other one, but I am sure she was incredible as well!). My roommates and I would wait in the computer labs to take up their class seats as soon as we could! I loved them both.
JM, your fellow honors bubble girl here agrees with you: Gamble, Hildreth, and McNutt were all awesome. And so was Dr. Goodman, Oh, and Dr. St. Antoine, too!
I had so many great, great, professors, both still at PBA and some that are gone. I speak highly of PBA every day and am proud to continue support PBA as an alumni.
While I appreciate your enthusiasm, you should probably keep that joy to a minimum on here. I'd hate to see the Bacon ban you for misrepresenting the legions of alumni who are out there and think that PBA sucked.
Webb and McGill were great professors that cared about who and what they taught. They left for much better and brighter days, and are certainly better off for having done so.
I'm an alum as well and Dr. Hildreth was a phenomenal professor. That being stated, the quality of scholarship at PBA is impoverished at best.
I'm sad to say that I was rarely challenged and novel thinking (outside of the philosophy department) and research related to academia were seldom made available for serious students.
Had I not been so intrinsically motivated to succeed, entrance to graduate school at a legitimate academic institution would have been a long-shot to say the least!
To those professors who took their positions as scholars seriously, I commend you for your effort; you made my tenure at PBA tolerable.
Dr. Hildreth was the best thing PBA ever had going for itself. I'm glad that he (and Goodman, and Gamble) has gone somewhere his talents are appreciated.

Thank you Bacon for putting a smile on my face!
I agree, what a great picture to see. Anonymous is correct, I am smiling as I type....thanks, Bacon!
BEAUTY.
The guy on the right, isn't he in the Lord of the Rings?
what are their names? I can only remember Denise's name!
That's Dr. Perry Hildreth, former dean of arts and science/also the BMOC of the Honor's department; Dr. Joe Webb, former dean of communications school; and Prof. Denise McGill who was the chairperson of the old news and information department and jump-started the photjournalism major.

Truly one of the finest pictures The Bacon has ever printed.
No, wait, the man on the right is Dumbledore!
AAHHH!!! yes!. Im still smiling. I miss this whole crew.
Hey ... Maybe Joe Webb could give Perry some hair for a wig!
Three wonderful professors, breaking bacon together.
Priceless.
dr webb 4 ever.
see Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.....and life after PBA too.

I thought McGill and Webb were great! Don't sully their names willy-nilly.
Student reviews (evaluations) are extremely confidential documents. How does the person making the claims know anything about them?
its probably you-know-who
we all know he reads and comments on the bacon
webb vs. meeks

Making false claims about a professor's confidential evaluations is quite possibly against the law. And just plain evil. Who would do such a thing?
It was me!

I, for one, gave Hildreth a good review in the class I took with him.
I think someone is just bitter about the bad grade they got.
dr. webb is such an inspiring professor. it's great to see him doing well. thanks for publishing this photo.
So many good professors have left PBA that they could start their own Honors College!
Oh, what a joyful picture!
Hildreth was phenomenal, as many of you have noted, and Dr. Webb was also incredible. (I didn't know the other one, but I am sure she was incredible as well!). My roommates and I would wait in the computer labs to take up their class seats as soon as we could! I loved them both.

I'm an alum, and I'm proud of the faculty who taught me at PBA.
Damn proud.
Being related to one of the three, I can assure you it wasn't because of bad student reviews.
I can second that
um, oh yeah, I'm related to the students who thought they sucked and I second that they sucked.
Webb and McGill were great professors that cared about who and what they taught. They left for much better and brighter days, and are certainly better off for having done so.
I think haha was right. Just cause you got a bad grade doesn't mean that the faculty "sucked".

How awesome is Dr. Webb's hair??
I love that guy!!
