PBA disarms potential idea threats

Several weeks ago, administrators received an anonymous tip about a potential idea threat to the PBA campus. With the Idea Alert System already on code red, school officials were not willing to take any chances.

Idea-proof vests were immediately purchased for Safety and Security, faculty, and staff. The entire student body was also required to wear Bose 'idea-cancelling' headphones.

"We can't risk the safety of our students in the chance that a harmful idea were to ever penetrate school boundaries," said the spokesman for the newly coordinated Idea Committee. "Besides, what would parents and trustees think?"

Despite the hard work and planning (including screwing shut the back doors of all Towers suites), however, reports Friday showed that three masked African-American ideas were a
llegedly seen entering school property through a philosophy classroom. They were then spotted making their way over to the DeSantis Family chapel toward a large crowd of students.

Fortunately, Safety and Security, along with multiple school administrators, were already on the scene, waiting.

One of the masked ideas was first reported to have begun shouting the non-trinitarian doctrinal essays of Michael Servetus at an innocent freshman girl. A security officer, however, was able to leap through the air in front of the girl, all the while shouting, "Nooooooo," and absorb the entire onslaught into his left ear.

Another suspect suddenly pulled the pin on an idea grenade, launching it violently into a group of sophomore Physics majors. A school administrator immediately reacted, hurling his entire body over the potential disaster, embracing the full explosion of the scientific method.

The last suspect was apparently a nonviolent activist idea, and upon witnessing the chaos, sat Indian-style on the pavement and began singing Hebrew spirituals. He was soon tackled and apprehended.

The three ideas were adequately subdued, and are now in the custody of authorities. As for the security officer, he has reportedly been committed to a quarantined cell for sixteen weeks. The school administrator is recovering, though still in critical condition.

An administrator demonstrates how to effectively avoid multiple distasteful ideas at once.

People who live in glass houses....(should get dressed in the basement. LOL)

to the above anonymous:

You're absolutely right, lack of sentence construction really isn't the root of it: It's insensitive douchebags who think that the Bacon owes them something or think that the Bacon has to measure up to their standard of good humor writing.

So for all those people:

You are douchebags.

This seems a little weak. Did something happen this weekend to prompt the article or is it a general misunderstanding of the administration that led to it?

I guess the days of hoping for well-written satire are long gone. First they just post news without humor, then they just pick random stuff and try to make it funny.

As far as the Bacon oweing me something, they do. They have a reputation of being a satire blog and even promote themselves as such on the front page. They are not giving us what they say they will and deffinitely NOT living up to their reputation. I think they do owe us more than we've gotten.

Either make it better, or pull the site. What we've gotten lately shouldn't use the same name and website because it robs previous writers of their hard work. And for those of you who say I should contribute instead of complain, I have tried.

What else do you want me to do, shut up? Ok, I will, post ended.

Pull the site? Good idea! Anything to protect the public from the writers' ideas.

To answer your question, it is safe to assume this is Bacon's genuinely clever way of reacting to the Soulforce stuff from last week.

To Bacon:
Commendable article.

I agree with the previous anonymous. A good piece- funny and witty ( I know...not quite a sentence). I especially like the Matrix looking idea catching photo. I can just see that in slo-mo.

Come to think of it, a college campus is a dangerous place for such fast darting ideas. Hooray for mediocrity! Thank heaven we've got folks on patrol to catch and expel such pesky ideas from campus property.

Bacon, you're doing a fine job. I would just hope that we could have a few more pieces of Bacon on a more regular basis. The masses get hungry quickly!

this has to be one of the best.

The folks who write this stuff have to be some smart cookies.

Dearest Bacon, so 1984-esque it scares me. I would love to know the back story...but...I know your policy.

To previous. Read the comments and you'll get it. Great article bacon. I think that the school really handled this in about the worst way possible. All we would have had to do was give them an open forum in upstairs Weyenberg. If they made a scene then they would just look like idiots. If there was dialogue then it would have been a good thing. PBA doesn't need to protect me from ideas. This was more of a satire of something very serious then just a "haha fat girls eat cookies" kind of article. I'm glad other commenters get it too.

Good article Bacon. Keep up the good work.

If PBA had given Soulforce an open forum, then they would have posted on their website that PBA supports their pro-gay mission.

Baconites, you lose credibility when you complain about something that the university, like it or not, handled correctly.

I think the Bacon handled this correctly.

Like it or not, the satire in this article is a fair representation of the way the school handles ideas that donors do not agree with.

Is it not odd that the school quite regularly hosts gay-related forums, but fails to ever invite any openly gay speakers? If a student wanted to hold a forum on homosexuality and the church from a liberal perspective, would the school stop it from happening? Would the school ban posters advertising such an event? This is a question that has yet (to my knowledge) been tested.

PBA's Original DJ said...

I can tell you from experience that Soulforce did not want a forum for discussion. Baylor tried to do something like that as I know that PBA did as well. All that they want is to get arrested for trespassing and get their message into the news. They never accept offers for free discussion on campus. If they did, why was it that PBA was the ONLY campus in Florida that they visited. It isn't about discussion of ideas. To them it is about making Christian schools look bad and get free press.

federal fred said...

With all due respect Original DJ, that is not true.

Many schools have forums with Soulforce and no one gets arrested.

Lee University is a good example. You may read about it online if you would like.

Anonymous said...

You mean we can read Soulforce's spin on their Lee visit online right? Look at how they spun the PBA visit. When someone wrote them and showed them the how many mistakes there were in the article, they said they had no interest in changing it to be more accurate.

They don't want an open forum and they don't want to write an unbiased account of what happened. Why would I want to read their skewed view of a visit to Lee U? Even if it was a place of open forum, that's the exception, not the norm.

Anonymous said...

Hey Bacon how about some pro abortion satire. Fits right in there with pro gay stuff.

max power said...

Someone's a bitter Republican.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. Soulforce had no interest in setting up a forum. PBA even offered to sit down and discuss, but they didn't take it (some basic investigation on your part would have revealed that one).

You can't just walk onto private property and start spouting whatever it is that you are selling. If you want a school with broader discussions, go to a school that isn't committed to a particular set of ideals.
