Portrait of a Bacon Reader: The Confused Alumnus

by Dustin Dingleheimer

I remember my days at PBA like it was yesterday: The Bug Race, Christival, Resumania. Man, what a ride!

Now that I'm out in the real world, putting my degree to good use here at the Chick-Fil-A, I miss being in college and feeling that sense of community.

The Bacon is a great way for me to still know about current PBA politics and happenings. I just wish they would tell me the real story so I could get all the jokes.

For example "PBA opens new parking lot: Lake by the Chapel," what the heck are they talking about? Is PBA giving students aquatic cars and the Bacon thinks the money should be spent otherwise? What is rumor? What is fact? What is the new policy on parking in the deck? What's the
real story?

Oh, and then there was that article "Soulforce is coming to PBA." What the heck is a Soulforce? It sounds like a legitimate organization but people on the comments seem to be debating whether or not that is true. I mean, look their logo, it has Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi on it. So they must be a great organization.

The Bacon really needs to work a lot harder at making sure that the other alumni and I know what these articles are about. So, c'mon Bacon, help all of us confused alumni out! I mean, what do you expect us to do? Read the comments and use some critical thinking? What, did I graduate from Northwood or something?

Note: This is the first in a series of "Portraits of a Bacon Reader." Check back for future letters from real Bacon readers!

I think the Bacon just jumped the shark.

Wait....I don't get it - What happened to spark this article? What piece of PBA history am I missing? WILL SOMEONE PLEASE CLARIFY?

a little background on this one please? I no longer live in the area (settled in Lantana after grad), so I'm not really up to date on my news. What's goin on?

I think that instead of writing satire, the Bacon is writing some stories about readers or publishing some letters the get from people. Either way, pretty lame if you ask me (which no one did).

WHAT's GOING on?!

The Bacon is satirizing its readers. And if you're a lover of dry humor, you'll crack a smile rather than be offended.

I think this article sucks and I'm not anonymous. Where you at now chevy? The reality is, everyone here is anonymous whether you choose that as your name or make up something witty instead.

Why are Bacon commenters this year so negative?

Good Question Mary,

I think the answer lies in primarily a strong sense of entitlement, thinking that the Bacon writers owe them something - It's not uncommon in a school full of rich brats who have everything given to them for free on a silver platter. And secondly, I think they simply do not know what good satire is. They think because they passed Composition I and II with a C+ that they are an expert on what good, talented writing is (which the Bacon surely is).

And also be reminded that everything here is anonymous, so all the negative comments could be (and probably are) due to one little douchebag sitting in his room with nothing to do all day but comment on the Bacon and hope people respond, and wank off to google images in the meantime.

(Yes, I just said you can wank off to Google Images...OH no! I just released a vital piece of information that may lead people into sin...Seriously, if you're one of the people who thinks that, you need to take Matthew 23:13-33 to heart)

Later,
KW

and pretty good satire, too.

I think that KW feels entitled to rain on our parade and feels like he owes it to us to make us think twice before posting our thoughts. Lighten up dude.

I enjoy this too much :-) besides, if you think you have a point with your criticism, by all means voice it - Just don't expect to bash the bacon with crappy justification and get away scott free.

KW,
I just love Bacon for breakfast and get a little concerned when people get picky about a teeny little bit of gristle here and there. Bacon isn't perfect...it's a marbled meat product that's not too healthy for you. However, it sure tastes pretty freaking good. I for one choose to enjoy my Bacon whether or not there are grumblers at the breakfast table.

MM,

I agree... I also think if anonymonii have criticisms, they should voice them and submit them for public discourse - it's so fun if it actually happens!

I think this is a great addition to Bacon...nice job, and I agree, the last line was hysterical.....

A Great article, Bacon! Dare I ask what bit of satire awaits us next? The point of view of the of the administration lurker, maybe?

How about the embittered student about to get kicked out for weed who complains that PBA doesn't love its students and uses the Bacon because no one else will listen to their mindless drivel?

Their own life is satire enough
