We here at the Bacon are truly happy to hear of Dr. Mahanes returning to PBA. We feel that it has to be at least partly because of all the support that was shown for Mahanes when he was fired. We would like to thank all of the students and alumni who spoke out against the dismissal of Dr. Mahanes and we look forward to seeing him back next year. Continue to have an awesome summer and see you in the Fall.

The opening chapter to How The Bacon Saved PBA, Volume III.
This is terrific news. I knew there was some function in which Dr. Mahanes could serve despite the superfluousness of his former role. Honestly, PBA could have saved a lot of trouble by making this decision in the first place instead of flip-flopping with one of its most valuable figures. Props to my alma mater for eventually getting the picture.
The re-hiring of Dr. Mahanes gives me comfort that alumni (and future alumni) actually have a voice in the shaping of the university's future. So, my fellow PBA-ers, please continue to keep your univeristy's administration accountable. Let them know when they have screwed up. Let them know when they have made the right decision. Let them know you want your degree to mean something in twenty years. Let them know you don't want to have wasted four of the most important years of your life.
The world feels right again....
Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
You REALLY think The Bacon had anything to do with his new position? You REALLY think the administration read the comments here or on Facebook and changed their minds? I sure hope they had better things to do with their days than that.
Rumor has it that they were eyeing this move all along, but had to move on the announcement of dissolving Religious Life before students left for the summer. While the Bacon may have confirmed that Mahanes is a much loved employee, I agree with cynical that it had zero effect in influencing the decision.
maybe not just the bacon had an influence but the student body in general must have gotten to the admin
The Bacon : PBA Student Body :: Congress : American People
"STUDENTS and ALUMNI who spoke out against the dismissal of Dr. Mahanes"
Sounds like they were saying it was everyone and not them that helped Mahanes out. And if you think the comment section of the bacon is the only place that people complained then think again. PBA admin offices were swarmed with angry phone calls and emails when this went down (alumni especially). Whether they planned on rehiring him or not you can not just blow off the outpooring when he was dismissed.
Is that an insult to the bacon because of how congress ignores the american people or were you talking about congress in the pure sense of what it is supposed to be?
Some freshman and sophmores might not know how to read your comment since analogies were taken off the SAT when they had to take it.
I heard this position was under development with dr M long before his leaving was announced. He really should say that to the pba community to clear the air on the controversy surrounding his move.
A truly inspiring move. There is hope once again.
The Bacon : PBA student body :: Twitter : citizens of Iran, post-election
What are there contributing to this blog? Maybe the same 6 persons? One or two faculty and some students and non students? Why would any organization take those squeaky wheels seriously? But still the freedom to blow off steam by saying whatever one wants is worthwhile even if it is factually incorrect or intentionally false as often seems to be the case.
This is a good move. I commend whoever it was that made the final decision to bring him back, and I commend all who put pressure where pressure needed to be applied. Dr. M is a treasure to the school and an asset to PBA.
I love that the Bacon is rarely the cause of such trouble as it's being blamed for. The anonymous students and alumni (and who know? maybe even faculty!) who comment here take lots of liberties with their interpretation of the Bacon articles, which leads to civil unrest in the comments section. Then there will always be some self-righteous zealot who comes in and says, "Teh Bakon is spredding lyez and prapajanda! Doun wit teh Bakon!!1"
The fact is that the Bacon writers find funny things going on at school, write about them, and make others laugh at the same things. They're not revolutionaries, they're not reformers. They're more or less just satire journalists. Every once in a while, there's a serious article that they will break for the sake of journalistic integrity (since they are not a mouthpiece for the administration). This Mahanes thing is one of them. People would have known about Mahanes' departure regardless of whether the Bacon posted Darth Clark's email or not.
The Bacon should be commended for its work in satire, not blamed for inciting riots (like lack of FML), not heralded as revolutionary heroes. Now let's all just sit back and enjoy our breakfast.
You are wise Aldous.
The Bacon is a blog that is written by people who need to get a life after PBA like Moody
Anonymous above, there is no need for hateful comments like that which have no benefit to any discussion. I'm not sure why you hate the Bacon so much but maybe you should just ignore it since it makes you so angry
My main reason for writing is to ask about the people who are saying that this was in the works before Mahanes was fired.
Why did I not hear a single word about this until after he was rehired? I'm not saying I don't beleive you I am just curious how and why this was kept such a secret.
We have always been at war with Eastasia!
I love how people still think the Bacon has faculty on "staff."
Why is it so impossible people to believe that it's completely student-run?
(Sure, they may get emails from faculty/staff/alums, but students are definitely the ones handling the controls)
Has anybody noticed the Beacon Blog had a story just like this one when the news broke and now it's no longer there? Conspiracy theories anybody?
Oh well, at least it is still on the Bacon!
No time for extended comment, but in short:
Good form PBA. Welcome back Dr. Mahanes.
Later,
KW
Avocado,
The bacon actually listens to the readers, congress does not listen to the American people and does not represent them. They're SUPPOSED to, but they only represent their own selfish interests. Why do you think Nancy Pelosi is pushing so hard for the environmental bill? Could it be that she, like Al Gore, stand to make millions of dollars because of their investments in "Green" companies? PBA's administration is more like congress...it's all about the money and their own selfish gains. They couldn't give a rip about the students or the alumni... that is unless they or their parents have fat wallets PBA can mine for donations. So, no points on your analogy.
I think Avocado's analogy was that, like Congress is made up of American people and was formed to represent them, the Bacon is made up of students and was formed to give voice to the student body (without any censorship).
And you may have a point that many in Congress are in the pockets of special interests, but really? Climate change legislation is being passed so investors in "green" companies and industries can make money? Any efforts to conserve the sustainability of our environment and resources is a bad thing? You would rather Congress work to protect polluting big businesses? Really? Good luck with that, man.
Anonymous outed me! I invested $7,000,000 and my husband into green companies! My secret is out!
Since we're outing each other, Anonymous is gay!
And what's so wrong with that, Nancy?
A lot of things, especially since he was hiding it along with his identity.
I like being someone who can speak their mind.
Plus it's gay to be gay.
So I guess now the question is....Who will be the new Provost?
Wow!!!!! Are yous serious Bacon???? You just deleted two posts in the comments section and there was NOTHING in there except a fair criticism of your policies. You're so much worse than how bad you believe the administration to be. This is really bad. Did you think no one would notice because it's the summer? HYPOCRITE!!!!!!!!!!!!
i said it before and ill say it again go back to north korea
Yeah, Bacon. I can't believe you're deleting comments on your blog! That's so much worse than embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars. Who do you think you are?!
In the words of a famous American: "I do what I want."
