I'm not nearly as excited about the Bacon this year after their decision to censor legitimate criticism of their Hardin articles. They can dish it out, but they sure can't take it.
Oh come on man, legitimate concerns and questions about Mr. Hardin were welcome, but that thread was turning into complete and utter anarchy and needed to roped in. The Bacon is indeed about constructive criticism, etc. But that thread was making it lose some of its dignity through uncivil bashing.
I agree with above. Give it (and Lu Hardin) a rest, and that's exactly what the Bacon did, and I appreciate that about the editors. The Bacon has always been about constructive sarcastic criticism ( and sometimes praise) with a twist of twistedness and humor. That's why people love the Bacon! It has never been about personal attacks and that also is what I like about it. Glad to have you back, porkers!
The Bacon is not what it used to be. There is now no whit, controversy, good play on PBA school issues, policies or news, and cheesy humor. Step up your game.
Of course the Bacon isn't what it used to be. There are bound to be new writers every year or so. It's ridiculous to assume that the Bacon could be exactly the same as it was when it started.
Sure, they went kind of serious on us in the latter part of last semester, but I'm confident they'll bring it all back soon with some biting wit.
As a PBA alum under Dr. Corts, and former PBA employee under Dr. Corts and Dr. Clark, I am very concerned about Lu Hardin's posting as the new President of PBA.
I was also concerned about Dr. Clark's posting. I once heard him (Dr. Clark) say he wanted PBA to become the Harvard of the south.
What was Harvard originally? It was once a theological seminary. What is it now? One of the most liberal Universities in the country.
PBA's new president is a former student of Bill Clinton's (On the make: the rise of Bill Clinton By Meredith L. Oakley Page 413).
Hmmmm... Makes me wonder if we're going to get a new definition of the what the word fraud is???
I'm all for Grace and Forgiveness, but what does this say about the character of the Board of Trustees?? Dr. Corts was most likely the very best leader PBA has ever had.
I'm afraid PBA left it's Christ-centered emphasis when Clark took office, and certain individuals were hired into positions of leadership, and administration, that had no Christian morals, but, rather, were reading and studying things about hindu and middle eastern mysticism, and attempting to "convert" us to that way of thinking.
I was hoping once Clark left, things would get better for PBA. Instead, I find myself absolutely horrified, and heartbroken over the path PBA is intending to follow.
I'm afraid PBA gets what it deserves; just like the US gets what it deserves for President. As a nation we've turned our backs on God. I feel PBA is also turning it's back on God.
I will never, ever send my children to PBA, as long as I'm alive.
Last anonimous must have been asleep for the past few years. Anyone who was at PBAU knows that when Clark arrived no faculty attended chapel, there were a number of non Christian faculty and immorality was present at PBA. He required faculty and staff to attend chapel, only hired committed Christians, got rid of immoral and dishonest employees and moved the school strongly into the evangelical camp. He personally interviewed every prospective employee and faculty memeber to determine their professional and spiritual qualifications to be at PBA. Pastors of Florida congregations especially noticed the change and nationally PBA's reputation changed both spiritually and academically. Let's give the new president an opportunity to continue the move toward a clearly Christ centered university with rigorous academic standards. I never heard Clark say PBA should become a Harvard but as a staff member I did hear him say the Biola was a Christian urban university that is setting a course PBA might follow.
To the Anonymous afraid of the direction PBA is heading in:
1. PBA might become the "Harvard of the South?" Oh no! We might be respected at all academically!
2. Lu Hardin was a Democrat who switched to the Republican Party in 1996. Look it up.
3. You don't have to be a right-wing nut job to be a Christian.
4. Sometimes right-wing nut jobs are the least Christian (read the Gospels sometime).
5. I'm afraid for the future of PBA because of the ignorance dominating the campus today. If the school keeps turning into a "Jesus Camp" I might have to stop telling people I graduated from there.
As a new PBA alum, I am excited to keep up with PBA through the Bacon and I will continue to enjoy people ranting about their own craziness in the name of criticism. Sizzle on, Bacon. Sizzle on!
Clark got rid of immorality and dishonesty at PBA??? Really??
Why was Dr. Bob Myers still there after 2004, when he was clearly a sociopath??
Why was there a business professor teaching when he was living with someone, but not married to them? If you claim this as "cleaning up the campus" you are sorely mistaken.
Why was Allen McEniry pushed into a corner and for all intents & purposes ostracized when his wife announced she was resigning to go teach at a different college? Is this a Christian attitude? Do we push people and their spouses aside when they announce they are going somewhere else? How is this a loving, christian attitude?
As far as being asleep the last few years, I haven't been.
Clark NEVER personally interviewed EVERY prospective employee, nor was it required that they be Christians. Trust me. The individual that was put in a position of authority over me, was clearly not a Christian, nor did they speak as one, nor for that matter was our department director. They may have said they were, but were far from committed. They didn't go to chapel at all. Ever.
I recall one question was asked: "We are a Christian University, and we require that you abide by our morals. Are you ok with that?" Is that a verification that you are a Christian? When my spouse and I attended, we were required to write our testimonies, before being accepted. Many other Christian organizations require this, why didn't PBA at the time? When I was hired under Corts, I was required to submit my testimony. I'm not saying that a written testimony is an absolute verification that you are a Christian, but it's a good indicator that you want to be in that environment. Some would say this is being narrow minded and unaccepting of others (like Hindus, Muslims, etc). But why should we sacrifice the truth for business? If we are truly believers in Christ, we should desire truth above all!!
When I hired people, I did ask about their faith even before Clark was on the scene, because I wanted and desired that all employees be Christians to help and witness to those students who were not Christians come to faith in Christ.
Regarding the following:
1. PBA might become the "Harvard of the South?" Oh no! We might be respected at all academically!
This might ring truer if some posters actually spell checked before posting. (Not directed at the anonymous who posted this)
2. Lu Hardin was a Democrat who switched to the Republican Party in 1996. Look it up.
I know Lu changed parties.
3. You don't have to be a right-wing nut job to be a Christian.
Agreed. I not right wing at all. I am independent conservative.
4. Sometimes right-wing nut jobs are the least Christian (read the Gospels sometime).
Agreed, but that is not the point. The fact is, we all know how completely HONEST and TRANSPARENT politicians are. Do you really want a politician in charge? Someone who says one thing and does another?
5. I'm afraid for the future of PBA because of the ignorance dominating the campus today. If the school keeps turning into a "Jesus Camp" I might have to stop telling people I graduated from there.
My spouse and I already have stopped telling people we graduated from there. We are very sad about the direction the PBA trustees took. Especially the 2 trustees I know personally. I thought they knew better.
Please don't misunderstand me. I am not requesting PBA to become like Pensacola Bible College, or BJU.
anonymous above, do not worry, pba has already stopped telling people you went there. the feeling is mutual. get on with your life.
president hardin is a great and strong christian leader. maybe you should actually talk to him sometime before making quick judgements on the hearsay that you encounter. if i remember correctly, jesus did exactly that.
oh wait, he didn't. my bad.
maybe you should remove the plank from your own eye because clearly you are blind.
Is it really such a bad thing that PBA may desire to resemble Harvard in some fashion?
What's so bad about a little bit of academic prestige?
There is not much utility found in an academic degree associated with a gloried Bible school. I realize such a perception would not accurately reflect the ethos of this university but as far as future graduate school and job applications are concerned, perception IS reality.
Higher academic admission standards and a greater emphasis on research would be appreciated by many students who aspire to work in fields other than ministry and attain advanced degrees other than theology or religious studies.
The Bacon is the official, authoritative and credible news source of the students of PBA. It is written by all students who wish to contribute their work.
Never before have you seen such a devotion to truth, accuracy, might and valor embodied in the written word and occasional picture. We strive for accuracy and integrity in every article. If you did not hear it from us, it's probably true.
If we make fun of you here at The Bacon, it means we like you. Seriously, it's all in good fun.
"Seeing my picture on The Bacon is surely one of the proudest moments of my life." –Dr. Mahanes, former Vice President of Religious Life
A request:
We'd like to ask those who comment on our stories to refrain from cheap shots against individuals. The Bacon is about challenging ideas, not slamming other people.
"What a stagnant world it would be if we all just left things that we didn't "like" rather than working to improve ideas, discuss, and debate them." -Bekah Grim

Everyone can write for The Bacon. We want anyone interested in joining the Bacon staff to email us story ideas, writing, pictures and more.
Catch a funny picture? Send it.
Running Russian sighting? Tell us.
Have an idea? Lets hear it.
And of course, we are always open to criticism.
Don't like us? Tell us!
Love us? Tell us twice!
We want to hear your feedback.
Whether you're a disgruntled administrator, a student, or a faculty member who secretly loves us (but can't tell anyone because you don't have tenure), we want to hear it.

What a lovely switch plate, Bacon. You have impeccable taste in subtle decorating touches.
You know, people have been saying "The Bacon aint what it used to be." since the 3rd of 4th article. Look it up.

Yes, but I didn't mean it then. I only said it to try and squash the Bacon. I actually mean it now.

WAAAAA-ZOOOO!
Like a mystical HIN-DOO!
How does Bill Clinton wa-zoo?
Do they know how to wa-zoo at Harvard?

The fact that "liberal" has become a dirty word on campus is hysterical.
You could probably shout the word in a crowded room and it would have the same effect as shouting "FIRE!"
Come to think of it, the ensuing punishment might be the similar as well...
Lighten up people!

You know what you can't see? The writing on the wall. PBA's dead! And Lu Hardin's the box they're gonna bury it in!
I think the natives are getting restless...we need BACON...PLEASE
Hurry up and make fun of Anus Weekend or something.
Or else the right-wing "independent" wazoos will keep on posting their paranoid delusions about PBA.
zzzzz........
Palsy! How are the kids?
so the bacon has the time to delete comments but doesnt have any time to write an article? thats it. the bacon is dead.
The Bacon hasn't removed any comments on this thread. Give it a rest.
Man, I've decided the bacon isn't worth my time. Only two articles (poorly written) in one month...bye!
