An e-mail to students was sent out this morning announcing Bill Fleming as the Interim President. The announcement was made to faculty and staff in chapel earlier today. We will post more information as we obtain it.
I don't know if he's qualified but he sure has the contacts to get sponsorship money. He may just be there to make sure we don't lose any sponsors. Money makes the world go round.
the "damage control" comment wasn't aimed at Fleming--he'll do fine. as someone else said he is connected to the donors. he is key to any transition anyway. damage control is what he and the marketing team do every day in their peculiar OCD way. btw, check out the slick marketing edits to the PBA wikipedia site before they get moderated.
the damage control I am referring to is about the trustees who have stepped in it big time and are now trying but their dirty hands over their eyes and say they were clueless about this
look around at the people who run this school. despite the sleaze that made squishy sounds wherever he walked, Hardin was the most capable and qualified person to be hired for an administrative position that I know of. what does that tell you?
Trustees please don't ask Huckabee to recommend anyone again! Do your own search and get a new search firm (failed on several pres searches) and a new search committee in place asap. Especially get new representatives from faculty and staff who will really tell you what they think about a candidate not what you want to hear. Fleming is an excellent choice for interim. Integrity, knows much about higher education, committed to PBA, community leader, known in Christian higher education circles and has the support of donors.
mr flemming is a great choice for a smooth transition. i am personally sad this all occured, (un)sweet lou was a great president for a short time and made some good changes to the school. for the first time in a long time the students actually mattered to people in charge, i hope the transition team and new president continue in this way.
In the end, the trustees decide who to hire. It's on them. The problem is the targeting. The board seems less and less in tune with the reality what PBA is and what PBA needs. They need to search for a university president. Not a media guy or politician or someone who defines the university with athletics or someone who patronizes the rest of us.
The Bacon is the official, authoritative and credible news source of the students of PBA. It is written by all students who wish to contribute their work.
Never before have you seen such a devotion to truth, accuracy, might and valor embodied in the written word and occasional picture. We strive for accuracy and integrity in every article. If you did not hear it from us, it's probably true.
If we make fun of you here at The Bacon, it means we like you. Seriously, it's all in good fun.
"Seeing my picture on The Bacon is surely one of the proudest moments of my life." –Dr. Mahanes, former Vice President of Religious Life
A request:
We'd like to ask those who comment on our stories to refrain from cheap shots against individuals. The Bacon is about challenging ideas, not slamming other people.
"What a stagnant world it would be if we all just left things that we didn't "like" rather than working to improve ideas, discuss, and debate them." -Bekah Grim

Good Luck!
= damage control
Give Fleming a chance. The dude always supports every good thing on campus.

Is it true they are using the same firm to find the new prez? Going for 3 strikes and you're out?

I agree, FLemming is a good choice. Lu, let me know if you need help filling out your brackets for march madness. See you in Vegas.

If the trustees go with the same search firm that brought Hardin to us, do we get a discount!!!
How do we know this will not happen again?
